Downtown Seguin is about to be a whole lot safer for pedestrians as TxDOT prepares to launch a construction project along Austin Street in downtown. Improvements will be occurring at four intersections along Austin Street – Ireland, Mountain, Court and Nolte. Improvements will include new traffic signals and poles, new pedestrian push buttons, new ADA ramps and curb extensions.
Construction is anticipated to begin the week of January 20 and last until May. The contractor, E-Z Bel Construction, will be working on two intersections at a time. The first phase will be the Court and Ireland intersections, and the second phase will be Nolte and Mountain intersections.
The project is part of the federal initiative that recognized these intersections as a high priority for safety improvements for both vehicular traffic and pedestrians. Drivers are asked to be extra careful when driving through downtown over the next few months as through traffic may be diverted into turning lanes and parking spaces may be blocked from time to time.
“Seguin Main Street is glad to see these improvements coming to downtown Seguin that will improve access and safety for everyone when visiting downtown Seguin,” said Kyle Kramm, City of Seguin Main Street & CVB Director, “We know there will be some headaches while the project is under construction but the end result will be worth the inconveniences.”
Main Street also wants to encourage you not to let the construction stop you from shopping at your favorite downtown businesses. Seguin’s downtown merchants will be open during the construction and will be relying on your continued support.
