On Wednesday, July 4 at 9:00 a.m. in Seguin's Downtown Central Park, the City of Seguin will host a flag raising ceremony featuring patriotic music and a special guest speaker. The flag raising ceremony is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve and have served in our military.
Following the Flag Raising is the Biggest Small-Town Fourth of July Parade starting at 10:00 a.m. Crowds of flag-waving people will line Austin Street for the annual parade that gets bigger and better each year. There will be more than one hundred fifty parade entries including floats from local businesses, elected officials, civic organizations, churches, schools, military representatives, and more. Our very own Texas Lutheran University Baseball Team will serve as Grand Marshal at this year’s parade. Their hard work sent them to the D-3 World Series, garnering Seguin national recognition.
“This event is one of the largest patriotic festivals in the nation,” said Kyle Kramm, Main Street and CVB Director. “I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy this family friendly event as it is sure to be a memorable experience for family and friends of all-ages.”
Friendly reminder to those attending to bring water, lawn chairs and sun screen to keep you safe from the heat and make your parade experience as fun as possible. If you live on Weinert, Cedar, Humphreys, Krezdorn, Blumberg, School, and College Streets, you are asked to please not park on the street to allow room for the parade floats to line up. Also, all vehicles will need to be removed from Austin Street by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
As exciting as it is for those individuals wanting to reserve a prime location to watch Wednesday’s parade, City staff wants to remind everyone to be courteous when marking spots. You can put your chairs out the day before, but we ask that you do not block the sidewalk completely. Allow enough room for people to still walk down the sidewalks. If you are using tape, we ask that you remove the tape from sidewalk after the parade.
This celebration is a time for Seguin to shine and showcase our community to all! We want you to be creative this 4th and to get social about Seguin! Post your Seguin Fourth of July pictures and videos to your favorite social media sites using the hashtag: #SeguinJuly4 and #BiggestSmallTownParade
Seguin Main Street Program and CVB staff would like to thank all the people and organizations that participated in the parade this year, including Seguin Rotary, City Staff, Main Street Advisory Board, Citizens Police Academy and Goetz Funeral Home for volunteering to work the parade, Whataburger for providing food for volunteers, Progressive Waste for providing portable toilets, our parade announcers and the multiple property owners for their patience and allowing us to use their property for staging.
