The community celebrated the arts on Saturday, March 2 during the annual ArtsFest. The event highlighted local performing artists throughout the day and into the evening reception, Art at the Texas. The proceeds from ArtsFest support future public art projects in Seguin.
The morning started with the Run to Create sponsored and organized by Alligator Dental. Laura Torres, Public Relations Director with Alligator Dental stated, “Alligator Dental is proud to sponsor and organize the Run to Create which is a run like no other. Children and adults sprinted through foam, glided down a jello slide, and were splashed with color at the Run to Create. Camp Gladiator helped motivate the runners by providing warm up exercises and music. The children’s 1K and adult 5K had more than 60 runners leave from Central Park, make their way through Walnut Springs Park and return from Park West. Along the path, runners were able to get their faces decorated with war paint and dash through a spray of confetti. At the finish line, children placed their painted hands onto a canvas sheet to create a community art piece.”
Central Park was filled with over 30 vendors selling handmade crafts and goods. Live entertainment was performed by area schools and organizations. Families and children enjoyed activities where they themselves became an artist such as, sidewalk chalk and painting canvas.
The Texas Theatre was filled for Art at the Texas, an evening reception that featured live music by blues group Comal Caterwaulers and vocal harmonies by Shady Grove featuring recording artist Vicky Rhodes. The evening also included delicious food catered by Davila’s BBQ, refreshments, a silent auction, art for sale from local artists and the presentation of the 2018 Outstanding Contributor to Arts awarded to Eithne Goetz.
