Staycation in Downtown

More than likely your summer travel plans were interrupted by COVID-19 and if you are like us in the Main Street office, you are getting the itch to travel and go on adventures. So we thought we would take this opportunity to remind you about the opportunities to be a tourist in your own downtown while doing so safely.

To start, book yourself a stay at the Magnolia Hotel. Renters will have access to a full two-bedroom apartment on the second floor of the former stagecoach stop and hotel. Of course, you won’t be alone while staying there – the spirits will keep you company. Book your stay via AirBNB.

There are also plenty of other short-term rentals and national chain hotels throughout Seguin that will allow you the opportunity to enjoy getting out of your home and the amenities of a vacation.

Of course one of the best things about a vacation is trying all the local restaurants and downtown Seguin has breakfast, lunch and dinner covered. A full breakfast can be enjoyed at Court Street Coffee Shop or get your caffeine jolt with a specialty coffee from Seguin Coffee Shop. Get sandwiches and salads for lunch from Amy’s & Cathy’s. Enjoy a delicious dinner from 1916 Bar & Bistro or Seguin Brewing Company. Several new restaurants will be opening in the next few months in downtown Seguin, so you will have even more options.

In between your meals, fill the day with some shopping at all the clothing boutiques, home good stores, antique stores and other independent retailers. With Sol y Luna, Funky Monkey Vintage Venue, Traveling Gypsy Antique, Austin Street Vintage and the soon to open Veronica’s Vintage & Boutique, shoppers have no shortage of one of a kind finds in downtown.

Want to make your own one-of-a-kind piece, downtown Seguin has you covered with You’re So Crafty’s drop in craft studio. Stop in to the shop and make your own design of pottery, canvas, felt, glass, beads and more.

If shopping isn’t your thing, enjoy nature and history as you visit Heritage Village, stroll around Central Park and hike the Walnut Springs Trail. The Heritage Museum is currently closed but plans on opening soon for visitors again.

Don’t let the canceled vacations get you down, just remember to be a tourist in your own backyard. To help plan your “vacation” to downtown Seguin, download the new visitor app “Visit Seguin, TX” on your smart phone.
