Season for Scarecrows

Everyone’s favorite season, fall, is right around the corner. The season that includes leaves changing colors, a pumpkin patch, county fairs, cooler weather and of course scarecrows.

In celebration of the season and the Guadalupe County Fair, downtown is decking out with a fall classic of scarecrows, as part of the annual Scarecrow Competition. Since 2000, the Guadalupe County Fair Association became inspired to co-host the annual competition with Seguin Main Street as part of incorporating downtown into the second oldest county fair in the state.

The fall season is a busy time for downtown Seguin with events including the County Fair Parade scheduled for Oct. 12, the Kids Day in the Park set for Oct. 20, and our annual Pecan Fest Heritage Days scheduled for Oct. 26-28. “This is great opportunity for downtown to get ready for fall and showoff the community involvement,” said Kyle Kramm, Main Street and CVB Director, “When people visit downtown Seguin, we hope that they see something unexpected and the creativity of our downtown merchants.”

It is a friendly competition and all scarecrows will be judged by our celebrity judges on Monday, October 8, so all entries need to be up and ready by October 7. Entries will be judged on their creativity and uniqueness. Entries should remain up until October 31.

To participate in the contest you must complete a free entry form that can be found at the Main Street Program office at 116 N. Camp Street or online at www.seguintexas.gov under the Main Street page. All applications must be received by October 5.

The contest is hosted in partnership between the Seguin Main Street and the Guadalupe County Fair Association. For more information, contact the Main Street program at (830) 401-2475.
