Scarecrow Contest Returns to Downtown

Leaves changing colors, cooler weather and pumpkin patches are right around the corner with the start of fall less than a month away. To celebrate the fall season, the Seguin Main Street Program looks forward to once again hosting its annual Downtown Scarecrow Competition.

The competition began in 2000 as a partnership between Main Street and the Guadalupe County Fair Association. It is a way to tie downtown to the fair. And while the fair is unable to occur this year, the scarecrow competition is still able to be held.

“The fall is normally a busy time for downtown Seguin with numerous events that bring thousands of visitors to downtown, and the scarecrows have always been a nice addition to the downtown streetscape to welcome those visitors,” said Kyle Kramm, Seguin Main Street & CVB Director, “And while this year, we might not be having all those events and the thousand of visitors might not be coming, we still want to celebrate the fall season and continue this beloved tradition.”

Any local business or organization is welcome to decorate a scarecrow. If your business or organization is outside of downtown, the Seguin Main Street Program will assist in finding a location for your scarecrow in downtown.

It is a friendly competition and all scarecrows will be judged by our celebrity judges on Tuesday, October 6, so all entries need to be up by October 5. Entries will be judged on their creativity and uniqueness. Businesses are encouraged to make their scarecrows reflect their business, the fall season, or be fair themed. Entries should remain up until October 26.

To participate in the contest you must complete a free entry form that can be found at the Main Street Program office at 116 North Camp Street or online at www.seguintexas.gov/scarecrow. All applications must be received by October 2.
