Seguin’s annual celebration of our famous nut is right around the corner. Pecan Fest Heritage Days, October 26 -28, is a celebration of all thing pecan and the many cultures that founded our community. The weekend long celebration includes a variety of events city wide, with several events occurring within the downtown historic district. Two downtown Pecan Fest activities include our third annual pub crawl and an inaugural pecan shelling competition.
The Hats Off to Juan Seguin Pub Crawl will be on Friday, October 26 from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. In honor of Juan Seguin’s 212th birthday, pub crawl participants are asked to show up wearing a fun, creative hat while meeting up with your friends for a fun evening in downtown Seguin. Check in at Central Park to get your Hats Off to Juan Seguin Pub Crawl pass. Wear your creative hat all evening long as you go bar to bar. Participating bars will offer drink specials, and several will have entertainment. First 150 registered participants to check in at Central Park will receive a complimentary gift. After visiting four or more bars, come back to Central Park to turn in your pass to be entered into a drawing for a grand prize. A brand-new event to Pecan Fest is the Get “Crackin” Contest, where you will be able to put your pecan shelling skills to the test. On Saturday, October 27, at 12:30 p.m., contestants will have 3 (three) minutes to crack as many pecans and produce whole pecan halves as possible. The Seguin Main Street Program will provide the pecans and the nut crackers - you provide the skill. Prizes for the top three contestants. Registration is $5.00 per person to be paid on Saturday at check in.
“We are excited for this year’s Pecan Fest and celebrating our community’s history. The entire weekend will be filled with fun activities for people of all ages,” said Kyle Kramm, Main Street & CVB Director, “The Get ‘Crackin’ Contest will be a first for us and we think it will be something fun to watch people try and crack as many pecans as they can and have people cheering them on.”
