Planning for Downtown's Future

During a time for being thankful, the Seguin Main Street Program is thankful to the Seguin City Council for including a Downtown Master Plan in the City of Seguin’s budget for fiscal year 2021. The Downtown Master Plan will lead all future actions and decisions for the Seguin Main Street Program and the City of Seguin.

“Downtown Seguin has been seeing an increase in revitalization with new businesses, new apartments, large infrastructure projects and an overall increase in customers,” said Kyle Kramm, Seguin Main Street & CVB Director, “With all the developments, an overarching plan will assist us in guiding downtown Seguin as we grow while preserving our charm and historic character.”

The plan will include a comprehensive review of the current social, economic and physical condition of downtown, community input and discussions about creating a vision for downtown and prioritization of goals and projects for downtown Seguin.

“A large part of the planning process will be gathering data and community input,” said Kramm, “Starting in the spring and throughout the summer, we will be reaching out to our stakeholders and the community at large to share what they enjoy about downtown, what they want to see in downtown and more. Of course, the way we collect this information might look a little different than in the past as we deal with COVID-19.”

The City of Seguin recently released the request for qualifications for professional planning firms to submit their responses. Currently, staff anticipates awarding the contract in February and launching the planning process in the spring.

“We are excited to be launching this planning process and to see the results of what the plan will include,” said Kramm, “This is truly an opportunity for people to have an impact on the future of downtown Seguin.”
