Pecans, Pumpkins, and Scarecrows!

Out with summer and in with Fall! It’s that time of year again, time for “The Great Pumpkin”, colorful leaf piles, county fairs, pumpkin spice, cooler weather and SCARECROWS!

In celebration of the season and the Guadalupe County Fair our young annual celebration is back, the downtown scarecrow contest! Back in 2000 the Guadalupe County Fair Association was inspired to co-host this competition with Seguin Main Street as part of bringing the downtown area into the festive season of fall.

The scarecrows all around downtown are not only festive but are there as a friendly reminder of all the fall fun Seguin will have. These events include the County Fair Parade Friday, October 11th, the Guadalupe County Fair and Rodeo October 10th-13th, Kids day in the park Oct. 20th, Buck Fever October 23rd and 24th, and Pecan Fest October 25th and 26th. “With all the events going around in October it’s hard for Seguin locals to not be excited,” said Kyle Kramm, Main Street and CVB Director, “When people visit downtown, locals or tourist, we hope that they see the creative enthusiasm from individuals and our downtown merchants.”

This friendly competition is only meant to scare away crows, all are invited to submit a scarecrow. Scarecrows will be judged by our celebrity judges on Tuesday, October 8th, so all entries need to be up and ready by October 7th. Entries will be judged on their creativity, uniqueness, and must be family friendly. Win or lose all entries will remain up until October 31st.

To participate in the contest you must complete a free entry form that can be found at the Main Street Program Office at 116 N. Camp Street or online at www.seguintexas.gov under the Main Street page. All applications must be received by Friday, October 4th.

The downtown scarecrow contest is hosted in partnership between the Seguin Main Street and the Guadalupe County Fair Association. Enter the contest or keep a look out around town. For more information, contact the Main Street program at (830) 401-2475.
