For unto us a Savior is born!

By: Jasmyne Perry – Main Street and CVB Intern

On Sunday, December 15 several Seguin churches will perform their annual journey called Las Posadas in downtown Seguin. The Las Posadas tradition, a nine-day procession, has been celebrated in Mexico for 400 years. In Seguin, it is a one-night event that is enhanced by candles and lights carried by our very own community as they stroll through the historic downtown district. Mary and Joseph will lead the crowd of followers from City Hall to the Heritage Museum, the Courthouse and ending at St. Andrews Episcopal Church.

At each location, Mary and Joseph will ask for a room and be turned away until they reach the final location at St. Andrews Episcopal Church.

“Come out and enjoy a night of fun traditions and fellowship.”, said Susan Lange of St James Catholic Church, “Los Posadas is for all faiths and ages and we truly look forward to our ‘pilgrimage’ with everyone.”

Every year, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, St. James Catholic Church and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church come together to get everyone in the holiday spirit with celebration. “It is a pleasant sight to see the community gathering together in the downtown district, especially during the holiday season,” said Kyle Kramm, Main Street and CVB Director.

The procession will begin at 6pm in front of the Seguin City Hall located at 205 N River St and will end at St Andrews Episcopal Church on Nolte St where there will be singing and refreshments.
