FIX -IT Facade Grants Awarded

The Seguin Main Street Advisory Board and Seguin City Council have approved four FIX-IT Façade grants for repairs and rehabilitations to four downtown properties. The FIX-IT Façade grant has been one of the most effective tools for downtown revitalization.

“So many of the downtown buildings have been revitalized using the FIX-IT façade grants,” said Kyle Kramm, Main Street & CVB Director, “Small projects like repairing awnings to large projects like slip cover removals have all been funded in part by FIX-IT Façade grants. The grant program’s flexibility allows it to meet the need of each individual property.”

A $1,150.00 grant was awarded to the Aumont at 301 North Austin Street to repair the awning on Austin Street and a $2700 grant was awarded to 107 South River Street to convert a window to a doorway to improve access to the second floor.

A $4,962.00 grant was awarded to the Park Plaza Hotel at 217 South River Street for several projects including screening of the grease trap and chiller, parking lot improvements to address ADA access and beautification of the outdoor patio.

The fourth grant of $11,105.97 was awarded to 104 North Austin Street for a new store front façade. The Sleep Shop is currently one large building at the northwest corner of Austin and Court Streets. The owners are platting the building to create four separate lots and this grant is going to rebuild the store front of the lot directly south of Southern Good. Construction of the new storefront has already begun.

The Main Street Advisory Board decided to release a second call for projects in April to award additional FIX-IT grants later in 2018.

“With a lot of buildings selling in downtown, the Board wanted to ensure the new owners had the opportunity to take advantage of the grant program as well,” said Kramm, “With limited funding, we want to ensure we spread the money as much as possible to assist as many downtown businesses as possible.”
